Glasgow 2013

It was once again that time of year when Jessie Grace, Sarah Lou and I take ourselves off to Glasgow for the weekend for copious amounts of food and drink.

With it being Scotland of course the weather was miserable (it just so happened that it was glorious back home too) but we didn't let that spoil our fun.

 Most probably our second favorite place in Glasgow, Hillhead Book Club in which we drank lots of this stuff...

And then it was time for dinner at our number 1 favorite place in Glasgow...

I think these might just possibly be the best nachos in the whole world...ever!

Any Excuse To Dress Up

 

Before the rain set in again we had some lovely weather here in South Shields, sadly I only saw one day of it though as I was in Scotland which isn't famous for it's sunny spells.

Anyway like the rest of the town I decided to make the most of the sun and dress up!

I hope you're all enjoying the start of Summer as much as I did yesterday.

Victory Rolls Rolls Rolls

As I was trawling through Instagram yesterday I kept coming across these fantastic pictures of victory roll hairdo's that people have been doing. They were all completely outrageous and fabulous, I didn't even know you could fit that many rolls on your head.

So before I made dinner (which was absolutely delicious if you were wondering) I locked myself in my room to do my hair. I had never tried a do with more than two rolls before, it took me long enough to master doing just the two so I didn't want to chance anymore.

But yesterday I did and I think it turned out pretty well for a first try.

Style Icon #1 Doris Day

Ever since I was a small girl I've loved to sit in front of the television and watch old movies.

The pretty women dancing and singing with there handsome male love interests never failed to capture my attention when I was a girl, I could sit for hours shit off from everything except the pretty pictures in front of me. I think that's where my love of everything vintage started.

One starlet who really used to mesmerism me was Doris Day. 

 

The film I ever saw her in was Move Over Darling,

I thought she was so beautiful and ever since then she has been my favorite screen actress, past and present.

She has such a grace in everything she does, the way she moves, the way she talks and the way she dresses.

I'd say I mainly style myself with her in mind, not on her though, just with her in mind because I also think with vintage style it's important to be original as well as take inspiration from old starlets and pin up girls. other wise we'd end up with a bunch of Marilyn's and and Audrey's running about.

But anyway back to Doris...

Her style was so fresh I think, she had the platinum hair and the dreamy eyes, she was a blonde bombshell but not in the obvious sex kitten way that, say, Marilyn Monroe and Veronica Lake were (that's not to take away from their style and beauty though). But that's not to say she wasn't just as beautiful or just as appealing.

To me her look was a lot more understated than others of her time. She had the whole less is more thing going on with her make up and her clothes were always tasteful and modest but very stylish.

  

 

Doris Day is, and will remain for the rest of time, a timeless beauty and that's why she's my style icon.

South Shields Coast

I don't think I've ever posted about my home town of South Shields before.

Not because I'm ashamed of it, it's a perfectly lovely place. Don't get me wrong it has it's not so lovely spots just like a lot of other places but it's a nice enough town.

I wold have to say probably the best part of South Shields is it's coast line.

Although I live here I have to admit I don't get down to the beach that often, I'll blame that on the weather though. However on Saturday after we visited Hardwick Hall Pablo took me for an ice cream down at the sea front.

 We got the sweet treat from Minchellas obviously, I've never tasted ice cream more delicious as theirs.

That little visit to the beach really made me realise how much I don't appreciate my surroundings, no one else has a coast line quite like ours ;)

Hardwick Hall

On Saturday the skies blessed the north of England with another sunny, yet quite windy, day so I decided it was time for a picnic at Hardwick Hall Country Park.
I donned my flimsiest dress (which considering the wind was not a good idea) and off we went.

There really is nothing I like more than after a hard week at work dolling myself out for a day out surrounded my beautiful old buildings and nature in all it's glory and Hardwick Hall really does have all of that.

You'll never know how tempted I was to climb up that turret and play the damsel in distress.

unfortunately there was no door and no stairs, the only way up would be to climb and in my dress that was a no no.



My outfit isn't vintage, I wouldn't want to scruffy up and true vintage by lying on the grass (as I am doing above) It's made up of a a dress I bought round about this time last year actually from Dorothy Perkins, a little cardigan from H&M (what would I do without that shop?) and of course so converse lite. You can still buy this dress on eBay for a fraction of the price I paid.

Judging from this photo you'd never guess that on Thursday I had the most horrific hair malfunction.

What happened was I had decided to dye my hair as my roots were coming through rather badly. I want to move away from bleaching though so I went from a slightly darker blonde however my hair did not go blonde at all. Correction, my roots went blonde but my hair went grey!

I never pictured my self as the kind of girl to cry over hair but many tears were shed that night.

However there was a rather strange but brilliant way of the grey.

I crushed up vitamin C tablets and mixed it with water until it became a paste. I then applied to it to my hair (not the roots though as I wanted that colour to stay) and within 15 minuets of applying it I was peroxide blonde again.

Handy little tip for you there ;)

Anyway back to Hardwick Hall...





The only flowers to be seen for miles were daffodils, there was hundreds of them.

Yes, daffodils and ducks were the main features of the day.
